Don’t hold your breath. I suspect that if you choose almost any year since Carter’s failure to legalise the weed (back in the 70s) it would look like we’re making progress. But the progress never actually happens. The Authoritarians are wedded to Prohibition not just by virtue of their irrational beliefs and deliberate deceptions but also because admitting defeat on a policy so well entrenched in the international political system would make clear how long and loud they have lied to us. The political effects of that defeat could well undermine the entire Authoritarian project and make it difficult for all other aspects of their control over our lives.
