I’ve never described myself as a nihilist – partly for the same reason many people are frightened to define themselves as anarchists – I had a false impression of what it was. (Punk anarchism with an impulse to destroy for the fun of it would be a reasonable summary of what I thought nihilism was)

On the basis of this very coherent description, I’m happy to call myself a nihilist from here on in. Certainly much of my own writings are making precisely the same fundamental points about the lack of inherent meaning; the option which arises from that to create our own meaning and, politically how – given the absense of inherently “right” answers – the only rational way to make social decisions is to seek consensus about those “meanings” we can all pursue or, at least, tolerate. Nihilism, like anarchism, produces the fundamental basis for democracy…
