XXX domain names go live • The Register

can’t quite understand the “Free Speech Coalition” objections to .xxx domains. They fear – quite justifiably – that authoritarian sexually repressive governments will block access to the namespace. So what? The existence of .xxx sites isn’t going to make all the others disappear and, if there is still a market for the non .xxx sites in repressive regimes, then I’m quite sure the demand will be satisfied. The benefit of the .xxx sites is that nobody can pretend they didn’t expect what they’re likely to see when they get there. It crystallises the required “informed consent” which justifies their existence in the first place…
