IPCC chief: ANPR is a victim of its own success • The Register


I detest ANPR because it is classic big brotherism. That said, I’d approve of it as a major weapon against crime and terrorism IF AND ONLY IF it’s operation was subject to Trusted Surveillance. However, before we get there, we clearly have some major training and technical issues to overcome. The situation reported here is a failure for the ANPR hits to be noticed because relevant staff weren’t logged in. Given that any half decent software can now send emails or texts or run other apps (etc etc) any time the encounter an appropriate “event”, this failure is pathetic beyond belief. I don’t know whether to curse their imbecility or laugh with relief at their obvious incompetence…
