Melanie Phillips is a bit like Anne Coulter. A self righteous handmaiden for the Authoritarian cause. She’s not Xtian (Jewish) so I can’t accuse her of hypocrisy, but her arrogance in taking on the Bish on ethical grounds is breathtaking. Rowan Williams comes out of it quite well, despite (as head of the Anglican Church) being in a potentially authoritarian post, as the confused liberal who genuinely “gets” the complexity of ethics.
