now this is a set of quotes we can support…
It still irks me that Cannabis users in particular are still far too apathetic to organise resistance to the authoritarian restrictions on their liberty.
I’ve been at the Reading Festival for the last week (working, not playing. Snot a patch on Glastonbury) and what trouble there has been has nearly all been Alcohol fuelled. Even the police you speak to acknowledge that they would far rather deal with a cannabis consuming crowd than a bunch of drunks. But the social psychosis which constitutes the War on Drugs runs far too deep for the Authoritarians to back down any time soon…

a nice bunch of quotes about the man made institution we call the law. The only one I take issue with is Fenimore Cooper, one of the heroes of the American Libertarian movement. They place an almost relgious faith in “Constitutions” but refuse to deal with the ethical basis for adopting a constitution as the platform for law. If it isn’t based on the informed consent of the people (ie. Democratic) then, by definition it must be based on a small subset of the population who have set themselves up as the arbiters of right and wrong on “our” behalf. That is just as dictatorial as what they believe they’re objecting to.

One thing we can be reasonably sure of about online “extremist” sites: that no operational terrorist goes anywhere near them. If they are using the web at all, it will be in well protected secret forums which you’ll only know about if you’re invited and given a username and password. Any you do find out in the open might well be “radicalising” wannabe jihadists, but if we waste time and resources on those, we’ll be missing the real targets…
