Neo-Cons Scramble To Downplay Shameful Puppy Video

http://www.prisonplanet.com/articles/march2008/030408_puppy_video.htm

disgusting though this is, and happy though I am to see any attack on the Neocons, I fail to see quite why they’re in the frame for this one…

Mounting evidence shows red wine antioxidant kills cancer (3/28/2008)

http://www.curingdeath.com/research/Mounting_evidence_shows_red_wine_antioxidant_kills_cancer.asp

good news but odd. The claim is that the antioxidants are disabling the cancerous mitochondria, but as you will know if you’ve been following the DCA issue, the whole point of DCA is that that it switches on the mitochondria which Cancer switches off – and in the process, reactivates the cell’s apoptosis so that it can commit suicide.

One of these explanations must be wrong!

the detailed confessions from one of the men doing the dirty work described in Naomi Klein’s “Shock Doctrine”…

http://therealnews.com/web/index.php?thisdataswitch=0&thisid=1175&thisview=item

we can draw minor solace from the likes of Phil Donahue “coming out” on the Real News network. But only minor. When we hear the anchor men or women on the mainstream channels doing the same thing, then, perhaps, we’ll be able to look forward to real change in the media. But, as of now, they are still doing nothing to oppose the main pillars of the American Police State. Until the Patriot Act, MCA2006, FISA etc etc are removed from the statutes, then the totalitarians are still in charge. What is more disturbing is that I haven’t heard a single suggestion from the 3 remaining presidential candidates that they would strike down these illegal measures…

Evolution Gets a Boost: No Cost for Complexity | Wired Science | Wired.com

http://blog.wired.com/wiredscience/2008/03/creationism-tak.html

well, that’s a relief. I’d hate to think it was getting even harder to evolve, when so many human beings haven’t managed to do it at all since the hunter gatherer stage…

Scandoo – ScanSafe

http://g.s.scandoo.com/search?hl=en&q=lidl%20snooping%20staff&btnG=Search

Why is this google search result significant?

Consider the story that is being reported here; the most egregious STASI like petty and intimate snooping of the kind that makes even Big Brother look moderately restrained. Even he didn’t stoop so low as reporting on the sweet nothings going on in a shop floor romance. “He drew a heart on one of the notes” (and this behaviour, according to the private dickheads who duly reported it, made that cooing couple a SECURITY RISK!)

FERCHRISSAKE. GET A FUCKING GRIP ON YOURSELVES. GROW UP.

YOU ARE the security risk.

This is what the Untrusted Surveillance Society looks like.

So where, I ask, (expecting the answer, for example, Here, or Here, or at least Here) are the howls of protest?

This page is all the google results I could find when I went looking. It will be interesting to watch how it changes, but at the time I blogged this, it got just 529 results as you can see from this screencap.

If you click that last “here” above, it’ll take you to my archive of the Spiegel Online English front page for today (cos it won’t be the same tomorrow, obviously). The story is actually there; discreetly buried about 80% down the page under the title
Discount Chain Accused of Spying on Workers”

(well we must be seen to be covering the story but there’s no need to upset our advertisers…)

To be fair, the Spiegel Story doesn’t pull its punches. It begins:

It’s not the first time that the discount supermarket chain Lidl has been accused of maltreating its employees. But observing them on the toilet? Listening in on their private phone calls?

The only mainstream coverage I have seen evidence for elsewhere (at what I can only hope is “this early stage”) is the BBC Newsnight report which brought it to my attention (and made me think that the rest of the world was bound to be talking about this) and this Guardian Story which isn’t on the front page, but is at least mentioned on the front page.

Another victory for the Free Market economy. Watch this space…

Stanford researchers developing 3-D camera with 12,616 lenses

http://www.physorg.com/news125159442.html

this, I suspect, will nudge us another step towards good VR. There is clearly a problem with the way we reproduce 3d vision in headsets and it’s at least partly to do with the fact that each eye is presented with a prefocussed image of an object at, say, 20 feet away, while the eye “knows” it is focussed on something only inches away. The cognitive dissonance this causes produces nausea in most users within half an hour. I’m sure that part of the solution will be to present each eye with unfocused data which it has to work on in much the same way it does in the real world. The “depth map” images made possible by devices like this could be the way to achieve that. Which would make this an exciting breakthrough…

all these things (mind control devices, low power chips, optical bypass; even Kevin Warwicks arm implant etc) come together to create the platform for the first generation of true cybernetics and it’ll be a commercial proposition within a decade. Carrying around a mobile phone or a laptop will be a very old fashioned way to behave by 2025.
